The progress of UMAKI projects
UMAKI are implementing the two projects one on bench terraces farming across the high slopes of mountains at Lulago village and the other one on Beekeeping through VNRC of Bandari village. Similar to SUWECO’s project UMAKI also started to offer the trainings on bench terraces farming and beekeeping to the intended groups. Based on the ground observations it is true that the two training were successful done this was verified by some demonstrations found to exist after the training as well as face to face interview with trainees on the beekeeping issues and the presence of 10 beehives in the office awaiting to be taken to the apiary a the Bandari Village forest (see the photo). In terms of finance almost all the given money have been used for training and purchases of 10 beehives and they are waiting for second installation to purchase the other 10 beehives proceed with stocking the apiary with beehives and implementation of remained activities as per their plan submitted. Given the fact that the village forest is in miombo woodlands with famous bee fodder plants i see the sustainability of the project if the all management issues will be on fully operational. For bench terraces farming on farm demonstrations application for trained individuals are expected to be done in phase two upon receiving the second installment. The ground check and observations done justify the group to be given their second installment upon submitting the progress report (activity and financial) of the two projects.
